‘The Afterlife of Knightly Orders in Central Europe’, will be devoted to knightly orders (including the
Templars, the Knights Hospitaller and the Teutonic Knights), around which many myths have
accumulated over the centuries.

This volume will explore the changing character of warfare and statecraft as they relate to the history of crusades after 1291. It aims to synthesize current scholarship, present informative case studies, and refine methodologies for studying innovation during the Later Crusades.

In celebration of the Twentieth Anniversary of the Crusade Studies Forum, the Sixth Symposium on Crusade Studies (April 10–11, 2026) hosted by Saint Louis University will take place on its Missouri campus in St. Louis, MO.

This three-day intensive course will focus on reading medieval primary sources for the social, economic and religious history of Egypt and Greater Syria, including Palestine during the period of the Crusades, roughly 1050-1500.

The conference will be conducted in two parts: a themed day on “The Mamluks and the Crusades” (July 23) and two days of panels with open themes (July 24-25).
